Gerry established Stratford Design Associates in 1981 after five years with
Nutritional Foods, Inc., a national food distributor in South San Francisco,
where he managed the firms in-house ad agency and in-plant printing
facility. Under his stewardship, Stratford Design has grown into a full-service
design and marketing agency serving businesses throughout the state.
Prior to his work with NFI, Gerry was a free-lance designer in the Bay Area
for over ten years. He has also taught architecture and graphic design at
the high school level and today he remains a frequent speaker at Bay Area
business association gatherings. His long-term commitment to excellence in
printing and design was set in motion following an apprenticeship in the printing
industry (Journeyman in the Amalgamated Lithographers Union). The apprenticeship
would pave the way to his appointment as General Manager of a San Francisco
printing firm in 1965.
Gerry has been recognized by the New York Type Directors Club for the excellence
of his typographic design, and his cook book design for Private Collection
was given the Book of the Year Tastemaker Award.
As a charter member of the Multi-Media Developers Group, Gerry continues to
explore the developing technology of the visual communication industry. He
is an advocate of the transition to interactive video for industrial training
programs.
